Description
This subject introduces postgraduate students to systems thinking as a foundation for understanding and managing projects embedded in complex organisational and social systems. Students learn to identify feedback loops, unintended consequences, and systemic interdependencies that conventional project management approaches frequently overlook. The subject builds capability to diagnose root causes rather than symptoms, and to design interventions that are durable rather than temporary.
Learning Outcomes
Apply systems thinking frameworks to project and program contexts. Construct and interpret causal loop diagrams for complex problem diagnosis. Identify reinforcing and balancing feedback dynamics in organisational systems. Reframe presenting problems through a systemic lens. Design interventions that address root causes rather than surface symptoms.
